- During the Second-World-
- War, the problem created
by the need to transport massive amounts
of war material to Europe and other
fronts was solved by using large barges
pulled by tugboats. Originally, then,
this type of tugboat was conceived as a
high seas tugboat. However, throughout
the years, it has been relegated to a
somewhat more humble mission as a harbour
tugboat.
