Manuel
Delgado's RC Dorna (Traditional boat) (Spain)
Manuel
Delgado came all the way from Catalonia to Combarro, Galicia, to
participate in the 5th Meeting on Traditional Boats and to present his
radiocontrolled dorna, built at 1/5 scale, whose 1.10 metres in length
are really impressive. Flemish pine was used to build this model, which
has a 7.5-kg ballast. It is controlled via two channels, one for the
rudder and one for the sail, although the kind of rigging used by these
boats is not easily radiocontrolled.
Navigation
was partially hampered by the sailing area, which was full of whirlpools
preventing an easy control of the dorna.
We
really hope the Manuel's initiative is imitated by other people who may
decide to start building boats that are faithful to their original
design. This can only be achieved by improving the quality of
documentation, as well as the sailing conditions hindered by the type of
rigging.
